Sept 2, 2022 Call To Action: Ask Your NJ Legislators Where Our Data Is Hosted

Email your NJ State Senator and Assemblymen/Assemblywomen to ask the following questions about our data and our state’s websites and web applications:

I hope you can answer a few questions about New Jerseyans’ data and our state’s websites and web applications.

  1. Do all outside vendor contracts include provisions to make sure that all facets of NJ’s various apps and websites have New Jerseyans’ data hosted on servers located only in the US (foreign companies AND locations excluded from having control over our data)?
  2. Is the MVC data (used in NJ governmental operations) located only on USA servers ? (Not including back-ups)
  3. Is data which feeds into the SVRS (including, but not limited to, any and all agencies, authorities and instrumentalities of the State of New Jersey or its subdivisions which collect and assist with the administration of voter registrations or SVRS database management) located only on USA servers? (Not including back-ups)
  4. Is it standard practice to include in contracts that any subcontractor(s) or sub-subcontractors must be disclosed- (i.e. – name and location)?
  5. Do the contracts for data hosting for 2. & 3. above require that the hosted data must reside on servers in the USA — and further, is there a prohibition on foreign institutions, companies or countries from accessing, creating or modifying that same data?
  6. Is the main NJ.gov website hosted only on USA servers- or if not, what company and what country is that website hosted in?

Hope you are able to get answers to these questions fairly quickly!

Thank you,
Your Name
